TRICYRTIS ‘Blue Wonder'(Plants/Root) Shade Loving Plant,Fast Growing,Low growing ,Zone 4 – 8
General Description
The graceful arching stems of this hybrid toadlily are lined with large oval dark green leaves that become a backdrop to lovely orchid-like flowers in late summer. Borne in clusters at the stem tips and from the upper leaf axils, the bluish-white flowers have deep purple-blue blotches and three-rayed, burgundy stigmas. The six-petaled blossoms are long-lasting. A hardy perennial that forms a compact clump, ‘Blue Wonder’ has erect stems that bow slightly as they lengthen.
Grow ‘Blue Wonder’ in moist, humus-rich, acidic soil in partial to full shade. Although this plant spreads, it is not invasive. In zones that do not receive snowfall in winter, add a leafy mulch atop the plants to protect them from cold. It is slow to emerge in spring. Use it as a companion plant for ferns and hostas in a mixed border or woodland groundcover display. Divide and transplant clumps in early spring before growth begins.
