Container, Fragrant, Groundcover Flower Seeds for Beds and Borders, mass planting
Petunia ‘Fire Chief’ was an All-America Selections winner in 1950. Bred by Bodger Seed Company of Lompoc, California, it was the first true red petunia to be introduced. ‘Fire Chief’ is a multiflora type that is extremely free-flowering and has a bushy, compact growth form. The deep red flowers are scented, unlike modern petunia varieties, and will fade to a soft, rose-red color.

This all-time favorite enlivens the garden with a profusion of blooms and is irresistible to butterflies and hummingbirds.
Splendid in hanging baskets and containers. An excellent change to standard petunias for landscape, baskets and containers. Spreading Petunias have minimal maintenance requirements. These petunias perform well to fill containers and stay full all season long, growing 6-12″ tall and spreading 30-39″ wide. Super planted with verbena, marigold, zinnia, geranium or other annuals.
Grow the plants in ample sun and in rich soil with good drainage. Because the plants are heavy feeders, Petunia flower care includes regular applications of a balanced liquid fertilizer.
How to Grow Petunias from Seed:
Sow Petunia seeds indoors 10 – 12 weeks before planting out. The flower seeds are extremely tiny, so press them gently onto the soil surface without covering, and keep the soil wet for the best germination. Five or six weeks after sowing the seeds, transplant the seedlings into 3 inch pots, and grow on in cooler temperatures with plenty of light. Harden young plants for 10 – 14 days before planting outdoors after last frost date, and pinch the young Petunia seedlings back to encourage branching at the time of planting out. The plants benefit from deadheading and a good shearing mid-season to help rejuvenate them.
