MORE DETAILS
Hardy Annual Heirloom. This beautiful, early cabbage produces tender heads that are 5″-7″ in diameter. Golden Acre’s compact plants are ideal for small gardens and it can be planted closer together than other cabbage varieties. It is noted for its uniform, round and tightly folded heads.
Soil and Water: Cabbage prefers rich, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0-7.5. Water heavily from planting to head formation, then water moderately to prevent splitting.
Planting and Growing: Start indoors 8 weeks before last frost, or outdoors March through June. Cabbage prefers cool weather. Fast growing or stressed cabbages tend to split and bolt; cutting into the root system by transplanting will slow growth and prevent splitting. Provide transplants with cutworm shield collars.
Harvesting and Storage: Harvest when the head feels solid. Smaller heads sometimes grow from the remaining plant. Golden Acre does not hold on the plant well, but it can be stored if it is picked when the head is firm and hasn’t lost any color.
